Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo

A Reminder You Are Not Alone

Today I was visited by a flock of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos. They’ve been very present these last couple of weeks, turning up at just the right moment to give validation, acknowledgment, or a gentle warm reminder I am not alone; the cosmic Mother is here.

If Earth is the Goddess of creation, then these are Her messengers. They are the gestures. She uses to remind us we are part of something grand, something much bigger than just ourselves.

Through her creations, she speaks to us through all the beings, lifeforms, and various levels of consciousness that make up Her vast body.

I recorded the Cockatoos today. I asked permission first, of course. With that permission, they stayed in the tree above my house for 15 mins, pruning, preening, cackling away to each other.

Occasionally, a senior in the flock would look down at me, cocking his crest in curiosity. I think he wondered why, this time, I decided to sit behind a phone rather than embody their sacred medicine.

Each screech rattles something loose within me. Every squawk helps gently wash it away.

They emanate a presence, a consciousness that embraces me and flows in through my heart. I am very grateful for the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos.

This morning they stayed in their tree for a long time. Two golden falcons turn up and begin circling within my frame as I record. They want to be noticed too. Then a swarm of swallows circles high overhead, drifting and darting as one living being.

Then off in the distance, the call of the Pink & Gray Galah echoes out, getting stronger as they descend upon us.

The black crests go up, listening. Closer, closer until a flurry of pink and gray stream us past like dive-bombers coming to the scene.

This is the cue. Together, the Black Cockatoos rise, their majestic form lifting from the tree with just a few strong beats. There is a movement to be had, a direction to be followed.

The two species fly off together, out over the city, to a destination unseen.

As I finish this piece, one of the beautiful golden falcons' circles above me, coming within meters of my house. She swoops down across our pool area as if to say, “Yes, we are here. Are you listening?”

I was wondering what I was going to write about today.

It seems Mother Earth wanted it to be about Her.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
